ninja_kie asked:

Through some unique circumstances I find myself working from home. The company I was working for told me to 1099 my services to them. My questions is since I live in L.A. county is it in my best interest to go 1099 or should I form a company and do business that way? I really want to know the pluses and minuses of both as far as taxes go. - Thanks for any response -

I was working in the US on a H1 vias whic has since beenexpired. So I want to continue working from India but want to get paid in my US account.
If this is legal, what are the tax issues? What documents/ forms do I need to fill up.
Thanks for the answers.
I’ll not be working as a employee, rather I’d be working as a independent consultant.
This will be similar to a 1099 emploment if I were in the US. So my employer will not deduct any taxes etc.
Based on Tax Guru’s answer, I’m a nonresident alien and hence liable to taxes to Indian govt.
I have a savings account in the US and earning some interest on it so do I have to file any taxes in the US? Or having a savings account is not legal for me?
Thanks.

I started a new job May 1st where I work from my home office. I’m a Sales Director and my corp office is in Phoenix. My company already pays for my landline phone and high speed internet service. I am being told that I can write off part of my mortgage as well as my utility bills. Other than telling me to talk to an accountant I am looking for some quick answers. Thanks!
And yes… my company expects me to maintain my home office so it’s not a personal choice but a corporate one.
I am using one of my bedrooms exclusively as an office and I work 8-10 hours a day in this space. My taxes are professionally done so I am sure I will get my answers tax time. I just wanted to get a heads up on some of the stuff I could write off.

My wife works in IT and telecommutes & works from home most of the time. Takes 1-2 trips a month to her company HQ, otherwise she it at home. In order for her to do her work she needs a phone & internet access. Its not dedicated phone line or internet, but withouth both she can’t work. Can we deduct the costs from our taxes? Can we deduct %? If so, how do we determine that? Thanks!
